A couple with longstanding careers in healthcare and extensive involvement in the community, Susan Jones, RN BSN, and Paul Jones, M.D., have been named Chairs of the 58th Annual NCH Hospital Ball, to be held Saturday, November 12, at the Ritz-Carlton Beach Resort, Naples.
"NCH is so fortunate that this special couple has agreed to Chair our annual fundraising gala," said Allen Weiss, M.D., President and CEO, NCH Healthcare System. "Susan and Paul are great examples of people who have energy and enthusiasm that permeates their lives and benefits the community in which they live. Whether at NCH, in their respective health careers, with their children, as volunteer leaders or working on the front line for local nonprofits, they bring passion to everything they do. Paul has been a valued member of the NCH Medical Staff since 1990 and currently serves as its President. Susan was a respected nurse manager at NCH in the early 1990s, before transitioning into other healthcare roles. She is deeply admired in the community for her nursing and management skills, as well as her many volunteer leadership roles."
Jim Martin, Chief Development Officer, announced the cause of this year's event. "The Ball will benefit the initial planning to address the space and modernization needs of the NCH Baker Hospital Downtown Emergency Department due to the growth in the region and the increasing acuity of the patients we serve."
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to serve as Chairs for the 2016 NCH Hospital Ball," said Susan. "NCH holds a special place in our hearts and Paul and I have had healthcare careers here and appreciate what this exceptional community hospital brings to Collier County. We've developed deep roots here, and feel blessed to have raised our children, and through our volunteer work, are helping others enjoy the quality of life in Southwest Florida."
"This truly is an honor for us," said Paul. "Susan and I know the important role that NCH has played in our community for the last 60 years and we are committed to doing what we can to help everyone see how their support of the 2016 NCH Hospital Ball can make a difference in the lives of so many who need emergency care. We are grateful that proceeds from this year's Ball will help kickoff the planning for the Emergency Department at the NCH Baker Hospital Downtown to meet the needs of a growing population."
Susan Jones, RN, BSN, grew up on a farm in Jacksonburg, Ohio. She received her RN degree from Christ Hospital/University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg. She has volunteered at a number of organizations, including St. Matthew's House, Kids Against Hunger, Habitat for Humanity, American Heart Association, Community School of Naples, Gulfview Middle School and Naples High School. For 13 years, Susan served as chair of the Neighborhood Health Clinic Block Party. Early in her nursing career, Susan was a staff, home health and surgical nurse in various hospitals and health systems, including a role as a nurse manager at NCH from 1990-1994. In 2015, she started a new business, Attentive Nursing Care, which provides clients with reliable, compassionate and personalized home care, while serving as a liaison for clients, loved ones and medical staff to help navigate the complex medical systems. At the same time, she continues as a nurse and manager of her husband's family practice office. She has served as an Honor Flight Guardian. Recently, to celebrate her 50th birthday, Susan ran 12 half-marathons in one year.
Paul Jones, M.D., was raised on a sugarcane farm in Jamaica and came to the United States to attend college at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. He is board certified in Family Medicine and has been affiliated with NCH since 1990. Paul is currently the President of the NCH Medical Staff, serving as Chair of the Medical Executive Committee and ex-officio member of all medical staff meetings. He has served as President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, Chair of the NCH Department of Family Medicine (two terms) and Chair of the Physician Advisory Committee. Previously, Dr. Jones served in varying capacities with the Hospital Disaster Committee following Hurricane Andrew, the Professional Capabilities Committeee, the Southwest Florida Physician Association, Community Health Partners, Anchor Health Center, the American Heart Association (Collier County) and The Neighborhood Health Clinic. Other community activities and achievements include Board Member for The Winged Foot Scholarship Foundation, Chair for the Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida's Business Hall of Fame Committee (2013), physician volunteer for the Naples Gators football team, President of the Naples North Rotary Club (2008-2009), President of Naples Sunset Rotary Club (1997-1998) and Naples North Rotarian of the Year (2008). He also served twice as an Honor Flight Guardian. He was named Anchor Health Physician of the Year (2003) and elected by his peers as NCH physician of the Year (2014).
Susan and Paul were instrumental in helping to set up The Neighborhood Health Clinic in 1999 and now volunteer as medical professional several times a month. They served as Chairs of the Collier County Heart Ball. In 2015, Susan and Paul were recognized as one of the "25 Over 50" by the Naples Daily News. They have four children: Stephanie, Andrew, Nathan and Juno.
The NCH Hospital Ball has raised more than $8 million since 2000 to help fund projects that vary from the NCH Heart Institute to the much needed NICU and North Naples Hospital Emergency Department expansions and renovations. In addition to new initiatives, NCH provides more than $30 million in charity care each year without direct taxpayer, county or government support. It is because of generous donors that NCH has been recognized as a leader within the healthcare industry.
We invite you to join us at the 2016 Hospital Ball and be part of NCH’s proud, long-standing tradition of helping those in need.
The NCH Hospital Ball is the longest running annual gala in the history of Naples. For the past 58 years, friends of the hospital gather on one special evening to raise funds and awareness for critical hospital programs and services. Thank you for your support!
